Lab to Land

Lab to Land programme is innovative programme of the Government of India for promoting the use of sceince and technology in agriculture sector. This programme was launched in 1979. The Department of Microbiology runs LAB to LAND programme at college level. The main objective of this programme was to aware the farmers about the benefits of biofertilizers and biopesticides and its use. In this programme microbiology students have used microbiological techniques and isolated various microbial strains from rhizosphere viz. Azotobacter, Rhizobium etc. and produced product like biofertilizers. Biofertilizers carefully and aseptically carried to actual crop land in solapur region and applied in front of farmers. Farmers counselled by students about the beneficial roles of biofertilizers.
Biofertilizers play a great and significant role in improving soil fertility by fixing atmospheric nitrogen under free living condition and in association with plant root nodules.
These microbes solubilize insoluble soil phosphates and produce plant growth substance in the soil.
Biofertilizers are very important source for augmenting the nutrient supplies for plants by virtue of fixing atmospheric nitrogen and solubilizing/mobilizing soil nutrients; they are accepted as key component of the Integrated Plant Nutrient System
