About Botany Department
Botany department Established in 1971 and PG program introduced in 2005, the Botany Department of D. B. F. Dayanand College of Arts & Science is one of the oldest departments with Twofull-time teachers and Six CHB teachers. The department has a glorious tradition of eminent and scholar teachers of Botany like Prof. Kanetkar M.R., Prof. Patil D.K., Dr. Pataskar P.G. and Dr. Bawachkar S.N. The department runs a short-term course like Study of Plants in College Campus for First year B.Sc., Biodiversity of Plants for Third Year B.Sc. and Study of Green House technology and Hydroponics for P.G. students proposed by Solapur University, Solapur under Skill Development Programme of Central Government of India. The department of Botany has been recognized as a research centre by Solapur University from 2012. Mr. Katakdhond R.N., Associate Professor and HOD Botany, Dr. Jagtap M.N., Associate Professor and P.G. coordinator, have been recognized as research guide by Solapur University.
Three Ph.D. students working under the guidance of Dr. M.N. Jagtap. The department holds an excellent record of university rankers, meritorious students, Youth festival winners, Avishkar winners and about 3 NET/SET qualified students. The department of Botany has a well equipped laboratory with 4 computers, projector, internet facility and smart-board. Department of Botany have own well maintained Botany garden with various types of plants regarding with syllabus of Botany, including two ponds containing some hydrophytic plants. Department also have a Botanical café including “Nakshatra Garden” and various sections of plants such as Algae, Bryophyte, Pteridophytes ,Gymnosperms and Palaeobotany and one pond with hydrophytic plants, Botanical cafe is also accompanied with Greenhouse, Polyhouse and Hydroponic unit which is used by P.G.students for their project work. It has a departmental library collection of more than 100 books, references books and many national Journals. The department has a very good collection of e-books. The department conducts various competitions such as wild life Photography, Drawing, Poster presentation for students.
Botany department also organizes exhibitions such as coin and currency, Wild life photographyfor students involvement, and various workshops on ‘Botttle garden’ with NGO, ‘Bonsai’, ‘Flower arrangement’ for skill development and to promote the students. The department also celebrate, National Yoga day by giving some demo to make awareness about health into students under botany Club. The botany department also celebrate Wild life Week. The department also organizes NET/SET workshop for PG students. The department organizes guest lecturers of eminent teachers to update both the teacher and student knowledge .The botany department also organized one national level seminar and ‘shetkari Melava’ in collaboration with ZARS. And two ‘one day state level workshop’ on Syllabus of B.Sc II and III. The department also has MOU’s with NRCP, ICIR, K.B.P. Pandharpur College and with ZARS which is in process. The department observes Teacher’s Day, National Forest day and New Year celebration. It also arranges an educational tour for students.

LABORATORY
The Department has one lab for Botany practical’s. The lab has sufficient number of equipment and facilities. The laboratory is well equipped with modern instruments purchased out of grants provided by Management. The department is enriched with learning resources such as charts, museum specimens, slides, models, herbarium and modern facilities like computers, internet, e-books, LCD, Smart board which help the students in independent learning and also one research laboratory for Ph.D students. The research laboratory has few sophisticated equipments like laminar air flow, computerized microscope, culture rack, shaker, programmable micro-centrifuge etc.

Research Facilities
The Botany department is a recognized research centre by Solapur University, Solapur. Co-ordinator of P.G. Department of Botany, Dr. M.N. Jagtap was recognized research guide.
