About Geography Department

Established in 1951 and PG program introduced in 1962, the Geography Department of D. B. F. Dayanand College of Arts & Science is one of the oldest departments with three full-time teachers and three CHB teachers. The department has a glorious tradition of eminent and scholar teachers of Geography like Prof. Bhasin M.G., Prof. Nane S.J., Prof. Kulkarni P.K., Prof. Madan O.D. and Dr. D.D.Gaikwad.The interdisciplinary subject Meteorology is also provided by the department. This is the only college where Meterology subject is taught. The department runs a Certificate course Quantum GIS and a course in Disaster Management for BA and M.A. students proposed by Solapur University, Solapur under Skill Development Program. The department of Geography has been recognized as a research centre by Solapur University from 2010.Twelve research scholars have been registered on Ph.D. Eight student has been awarded and four research student working on Ph,D degree. Dr. N. G. Shinde, Associate Professor and HOD Geography have been recognized as research guide by Solapur University, Solapur. The department of Geography has a laboratory with 2 computers, projector, internet facility and smart-board. It has a collection of more than books pertaining to Geography textbooks and references books. The department has a very good collection of e-books. The department organizes NET/SET workshop for PG students. The department organizes guest lectures of eminent teachers to update both the teacher and student knowledge. The department observes Teacher’s Day, Guru-pournima and Shakespeare Day. It also arranges an educational tour field survey for students. The trust area are Settlement Geography,Economic Geography,Population Geography,Marketing Geography,Urban Geography,Remote Sensing GIS etc.

LABORATORY

Geography department has Two spacious and well equipped laboratories, one Store room. One laboratory is equipped with projector and smart board. The under graduate laboratory has all necessary instruments including Thermograph,Barograph, Wind vane, Surveying instruments, different types of maps, etc. The post graduate laboratory has all necessary instruments including Mirror Stereoscopes, Pocket Stereoscopes, etc. The department has one research Laboratory with facilities.

Research Facilities

The Geography department is a recognized research centre by Solapur University, Solapur. Head of Department Dr. N. G. Shinde is a recognized research guide.
The research laboratory has enough infrastructures to synthesize all geographical data with the help of different maps, charts and equipments.
