Department of PHYSICS

Welcome to Department of Physics

The department of Physics of D.B.F. Dayanand College of Arts and Science, Solapur was established in 1940 with a special ambition to pursue high level teaching methodologies to deliver fundamental Physics terminologies in a better way. The department has a glorious tradition of eminent and scholar teachers of Physics like Dr. G.L. Datta, Dr.P.C. Rao, Dr. Mangoli, Dr. Dhaygude etc. The department runs under graduate program as well as post graduate program in Physics with specialization in Solid State Physics for later. An Interdisciplinary rare subject Meteorology is introduced at B. Sc. II level to enhance the interest of students in atmospheric physics.
The department has been recognized as a research centre by Solapur University. The faculty members are well qualified, experienced and recognized as post graduate teachers and one as Research Guide by Solapur University. It has research projects to its credit sanctioned by UGC and other funding agencies. All faculty members publish the research work in reputed National and International journals. The department organizes different National/State/University level conferences, workshops and seminars. The department has active MoU’s and linkages with many reputed Institutes and Industry. The department always tries to develop overall personality of students by conducting various student-centric activities frequently.
The department also conducts one University Affiliated Certificate Course and one College Offered Certificate Course for skill devolvement of the students .

LABORATORY

Physics department has three spacious and well equipped laboratories, two darkrooms and one semi dark room. One laboratory is equipped with projector and smart board. The under graduate laboratory has all necessary instruments including GM Counter, Michelson’s Interferometer, Optical Fiber Communication Kit, LCR-Q Meter, etc. The post graduate laboratory has all necessary instruments including Lattice Dynamic Kit, Four Probe Kit, LVDT kit, TEP kit, etc. The department has one research Laboratory withfacilities to synthesize nanomaterials, Magnetic Materials, Conducting Polymers, Composite materials and thin films. The research laboratory has few sophisticated equipments like Hydrothermal Bath, Furnace, Double Distillation plant ultrasonicator, magnetic stirrer, Hall effect set up, 4 ½ display multimeter, etc.
